JACKSON, Miss. – The Birmingham-Southern volleyball team swept the Belhaven Blazers to grab their first win of the season. The Panthers recorded 13 aces as a team in this three set match.
The Panthers came out hot in the first set, going on a 5-point run early on that gave them a 7-2 lead. The serve game gave the Panthers a huge advantage in the first set. The team had a total of 6 aces in the first set out of their total 13.
Alyssa Coats and
Kate Powell both had 2 aces a piece in the set.
In the second set, the Panthers went on another run that allowed them to gain an 11-4 lead. The Panthers did not let up as they extended their lead 20-11 and eventually finished the game out with an impressive 5-point run to end the set 25-12.
After falling behind in the beginning of the third set, the Panthers proved their strength to make a 7-point run that brought them to a 9-5 lead.
Ally Mildenberger had a pair of aces during that stretch to help the team out. The final set ended 25-16. The Panthers dominated the match start to finish.
