PANTHERS AND LIONS BATTLE TO DRAW

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A total of 33 shots were attempted in the 0-0 draw between the Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team and the Piedmont Lions today (Sept. 6). Madeleine Ash led the way for the Panthers playing 92 minutes, attempting five shots with one making it on goal.

The Panthers had the early momentum posses the ball for most of the first half and were able to get two shots on goal and were awarded three corner kicks within the first 15 minutes of play. BSC ended the first half with five shots and two on goal. The Lions edged Birmingham-Southern in shots in the first half with six and three being on goal.

After halftime, the Lions came out firing getting off three shots in the first 4:30 of the second half. Ardis Haskell held strong in net not allowing one to reach the back of the goal. The deeper the game got without a goal the more intense the game got. Both teams combined for 9 fouls and two yellow cards in the second half. The Lions dominated the last 10 minutes of the second half but again, Haskell and the back line held strong. The Panther defense escaped from a few corner kick scares and were able to finish regulation tied 0-0.

Both overtime periods saw intense action, but again no goals. The Panthers had a chance at the end of the second overtime period to win the game but game away with nothing as the Lions goalkeeper held her ground making 6 saves in the game.

The game ended in a 0-0 tie.
