DANVILEE, Ky. - Finishing off the away portion of the conference regular season, the Panthers swept the weekend and finished with only one road loss. The four set victory over Centre added the Birmingham-Southern's 11th victory in the conference season. The Panthers put up a team high 13 total blocks and
Alyssa Coats,
Kennedy Dickens and
Leah Nielsen each put up 10 kills of their own.
Centre took the lead in set one at 5-4, but a kill from
Leah Nielsen started a four point run for the Panthers that put them up 8-5. Birmingham-Southern held a lead at 11-8 before the Colonels took the next five to take the lead back 13-11. Set one continued on with a lot of back and forth play, trading leads between the two teams. BSC took a lead at 21-20 with a kill from
Kennedy Dickens, but were unable to stop the Colonels momentum that took four straight to get them to set point.
Alyssa Coats put down a kill to hold Centre off of set point, but it was not enough and the Colonels took it 25-22.
Set two was another close set with a lot of two and three point runs for each team. Centre held the early lead first at 3-1. Birmingham-Southern took their first lead of the set at 6-5 after a kill from
Alyssa Coats and an ace from
Grace Waddell. Back to back kills from
Kylie Wilhelmi and
Gigi Fields, as well as a block from Wilhelmi and
Kennedy Dickens, put the Panthers up 12-9. BSC pushed their lead to point 20 with kills from
Ainsley Schultz and
Kennedy Dickens and then again to 21 with a block from Dickens and Fields. Two errors from the Colonels gave the Panthers set point and Leah Neilsen ended it with a kill to take it 25-21.
Tying set three up at 3-3, multiple errors from the Colonels and a kill from
Alyssa Coats put the Panthers up 6-3. They quickly stretched that to 9-4 with a kill from
Leah Nielsen, a block from Nielsen and
Ainsley Schultz and an ace from
Alyssa Coats. The Panthers kept their momentum up, gaining two points at a time while only allowing the Colonels to gain one and held the lead at 15-10. An error from the Colonels triggered a massive 8 point run for BSC that took them to point 23, with half of those points coming from attacking errors by Centre.
Alyssa Coats gave the Panthers set point and
Ainsley Schultz ended it at 25-13.
One again, tied at 3-3 to start things off,
Gigi Fields put down two kills and
Kennedy Dickens added one to push the Panthers to a 6-3 lead. Back to back blocks from
Leah Nielsen and
Ainsley Schultz and a service ace from
Alyssa Coats, extended that lead to 12-7. The Panthers soon took three more points to make it 15-8 and only allowed Centre to add one at a time. The Colonels fought back and were able to close up that lead to only 19-17, but
Leah Nielsen put down a kill and added a block with
Ainsley Schultz to extend it once again. Two errors from Centre gave the Panthers match point and
Kylie Wilhelmi ended it with a kill to finish it off 25-22.
