BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A late-game penalty kick helped the Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team to end in a tie against the Stormy Petrels.
From kickoff, the Panthers looked to be in control of the match keeping the ball moving on the attack. Despite this, the Petrels were able to swing the momentum in their direction and score to snatch an early lead.
A brief streak of corner kicks gave hope for a Panthers score to tie up the match, but none would come. Both teams went back-and-forth trading fouls and shots to close out the half.
A similar half looked to be in store with Panthers responding well to their deficit and remaining aggressive. The Petrels did everything they could to hold onto their lead, tallying a number of fouls throughout the half.
This conflict would come to a head as time was winding down. A foul in the penalty box would, yet again, set up
Trey Hines for a clutch goal. While his goal would tie things up, the remaining five minutes were simply not enough to complete the comeback win.
