PANTHERS STUNNED BY LYNX

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Birmingham-Southern football team came into their final game against Rhodes on the bubble of making the NCAA Division III National Championships. A win would have helped their chances of getting in to the tournament. Unfortunately, Rhodes pulled off the upset and beat BSC 20-3 in the regular season finale.

The Panthers broke the 0-0 tie, after forcing Rhodes to a three-and-out the Panthers drove down the field and kicked a field goal to go up 3-0. Rhodes responded right away with a 12-play, 69-yard drive to take the lead 7-3. On the ensuing possession BSC was able to get into Rhodes territory before turning the ball over on downs. The Lynx took advantage of that drove down the field and kicked a field goal to take a seven-point lead.

Throughout the second quarter both teams would trade possessions but no one would score and Lynx would lead at halftime 10-3.

Midway through the third quarter, Rhodes extended their lead to 10 on a 35-yard field goal. Birmingham-Southern could not get anything going on offense and were forced to punt again after the the Rhodes field goal. BSC was unable to convert on a few fourth downs before Rhodes pulled away after a touchdown put them up 17 with a 3:35 left in game.
