HOUSTON, Texas – The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team closed out the UST Houston Tournament against Schreiner University. The Panthers simply could not keep up with the hot shooting of their opponents with 91-123 being the final score.
The first quarter was the Panthers' best for shooting, making half of their opportunities, but a number of fouls on the defensive end pushed the Mountaineers forward as they were perfect from the free throw line and ended the quarter with a 10-point lead. They would address this issue in the second, and it proved to be successful allowing BSC to go toe-to-toe and chip into the deficit, ending the half at 48-56.
Unfortunately, the Panthers' momentum did not carry over through the break as they struggled to get the lid off of the basket while the Mountaineers poured in shots on the other end. Once again, BSC had to address the issues of the previous quarter, which helped them to close out the game strong, but the damage had already been done.
Three Panthers hit double digits in scoring, including Sameera Elmasri (14), McKenna Buckner (13), and Faith Anderson (12). Elmasri was also active defensively, leading the team in steals with five and swatting down a shot.
