BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team took on Belhaven University at home. The Panthers' defense made the difference in the end to give them the 97-95 win.
A slow start on the offensive end put the Panthers just behind through the first quarter, but that did not deter them. They came out of the break blazing. Hitting some early shots brought them back to even, and knocking down five three-pointers late in the quarter helped them to close out the half with the lead 49-48.
However, the halftime break proved to cool down the Panthers' hot hands. Despite the lower scoring quarter, BSC kept the Blazers from jumping too far ahead by snagging several steals and swatting away a few shots. Facing as much as an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter, the Panthers required an all-out effort on both ends of the floor, and they certainly delivered with Montana Harris sealing the victory with only four seconds left on the clock.
Sameera Elmasri led the team in points with her season high of 24, but this was a full team effort with four other Panthers scoring in double digits. They also shined defensively with seven Panthers collecting multiple steals for a total of 27.
