PANTHERS FALL IN SAA OPENER

JACKSON, Miss. - The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team battled Millsaps College on Saturday, falling 93-78 in the Panthers opening game of Southern Athletic Association play.

BSC had five players score nine points or more as Montana Harris posted 14 points to lead all Panthers scorers while adding four rebounds and two assists. Brooke Westhoelter notched her fourth consecutive double-figure game, going 4-of-9 from the floor for a 13-point game. Lauryn Towns, Lily Hart, amd Summer Killin all scored nine points in the game. The nine points for Hart was a season-high.

The Majors were led by a 20-point, three-rebound performance from Haley Franklin. Franklin made 9-of-19 from the floor in the game as Millsaps shot 53.5-percent for the game.

BSC led by one after the first quarter of play, but it was Millsaps who gained the edge in the second quarter. The Majors would take a three-point lead into halftime. Just before the buzzer went off Lily Hart hit a three-point shot to bring the Panthers within three. 

The Majors would take control of the game in the third quarter outscoring the Panthers by 11. Millsaps hoped out to a 7-1 run to start the third quarter, the Panthers could not overcome the run and went down by as much as 15. They would fight back but could not close the gap. Millsaps.

BSC started to get hot shooing the ball and was able to cut the lead to five with just over four minutes remaining in the game. After cutting the lead to five, Millsaps went on another run and pulled away for good from the Panthers.
