PANTHERS FALL IN DOUBLEHEADER

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.  – Birmingham-Southern women's tennis continued their non-conference match play with a doubleheader against Wallace State Community College and UT Southern. The Panthers fell to the Wallace State Lions in a close 5-4 match. UT Southern took the win at 7-2 over the Panthers. 
 
Match one: The Panthers took No. 1 doubles 6-4 and No. 2 doubles 6-4 as well.  The Lions earned their only doubles win at No. 3, beating the Panthers 6-2. BSC headed into singles play with a 2-1 lead, hoping to extend it all the way to a win.

Ansley Turley took the No. 1 singles match in straight sets. Sarah Rushing took the No. 5 singles match in three hard fought sets. Turley and Rushing took the only two wins for in singles play for BSC.

Match two: The Firehawks took No. 2 doubles 6-2 and No. 3 doubles 6-2.  The duo of Ansley Turley and Phoebe Shapard earned BSC their only doubles win at the No. 1 position, beating the Firehawks 6-2. The Firehawks had the lead heading into singles play and the Panthers were looking to make a comback.

Anna Cate Weeks brought in the only singles win for BSC in the No. 6 matchup. Weeks took down her opponent in three sets, taking the final set 10-5.

Up next
The Panthers will hit the road on Saturday, Feb. 12 as they travel to Demorest, Ga. Match time against Piedmont University is set for 12 p.m.
