PANTHERS DROP PAIR AT RHODES

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Birmingham-Southern baseball team fell in a doubleheader at Rhodes today (March 13). BSC was walked off 7-6 in game one and fell in game two 6-2.

Game one
After a quick first inning for the Panthers offense, the Lynx took an early lead after a two hit, three run inning in their half of the first. A couple BSC miscues led to a couple runs. After the first inning the defense settled in. Birmingham-Southern got one run back in the top of the second to cut into the lead.

After a couple scoreless innings the Panthers broke through on offense. In the fifth inning the Panthers took the lead after scoring three runs on two hits. The biggest hit of the inning was Noah Best's two out double that drove in two runs. The Panther pitching kept the Lynx at bay in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings not allowing them to plate a run. BSC added to their lead in the seventh and eighth to take a 6-3 lead into the bottom of the eighth.

The Lynx got two runs back in the eighth to cut into the Birmingham-Southern lead 6-5. After a four batter top of the ninth for BSC they looked to close out the game in the ninth, but Rhodes had other ideas. Rhodes got their first two batters of the inning on before the Panthers recorded their first out. After a strikeout Rhodes singled through the left side scoring a run and tying the game. A walk then loaded the bases for the Lynx. The next pitch wound up going to the back stop and scoring the winning run for the Lynx who won the game 7-6 on a walkoff wild pitch.

Game two
Rhodes carried that momentum into the second game of the day. The Lynx plated five runs in the first inning and never looked back as they kept the BSC lineup quiet for most of the day.

In all but two innings the Panthers threatened with a runner in scoring position, but could not capitalize on the opportunity. They scratched across a run in the third and seventh but could not drive in the runs when they needed it. The Panthers looked to score in the fifth and sixth innings after a couple doubles tried to sway the momentum their way but they were unable to get those runs in. Rhodes added just one run in the other six innings of play and that was enough to win the game 6-2.
