BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - In a battle of two top 10 nationally ranked teams it was the Panthers of LaGrange that would outlast Birmingham-Southern in a midweek matchup. Birmingham-Southern fell 8-2 to the No. 6 team in the nation.
After a quick first three and half innings that saw just two hits, both by LaGrange, it was BSC that got on the board first. In the bottom of the fourth inning
Noah Best hit a solo homerun down the left field line to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. After a 1-2-3 inning from
Ricky Harrison the Panthers looked to add more, but the LaGrange pitcher sent Birmingham-Southern down in order.
The top of the sixth inning saw LaGrange take the lead after a three-run homerun by the LaGrange first basemen. A double and single brought in a fourth run in the inning and after five and half innings LaGrange led 4-1.
BSC got a run back in the bottom half of the inning after
Wes Diamantis tripled to center field and later scored on a wild pitch. Unfortunately, for the Panthers that is all they would get the rest of the game.
LaGrange added a run in the eighth inning and later added three in the ninth to put the game out of reach and defeat BSC 8-2.
