STEADMAN COLLECTS 200TH HIT AS BSC SWEEPS CENTRE

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Panthers completed a sweep of conference opponent Centre today (April 10) by scores of 14-10 and 12-4. In the first game of the doubleheader senior, Cole Steadman recorded his 200th hit as a Panther. He is just the fifth player in the Birmingham-Southern Division III era to accomplish the feat. 

Game one
The Panthers came from behind once again to gather a win in game one. BSC scored 14 runs with eight of them coming in the final three innings of the game. 

Birmingham-Southern got on the scoreboard first plating four runs in the top of the fourth inning to take an early lead. After being held scoreless in the bottom of the first Centre responded with a six spot in the bottom of the second and took a 6-4 lead. They added a run in the third to extend their lead to 7-4. Birmingham-Southern added a run in each of the next two innings to cut the Colonels lead to 7-6. 

Just as Birmingham-Southern gained momentum Centre took it back putting up three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-6 lead with three innings to play. BSC got two runs back the following inning with one run coming from a Noah Best solo homerun. The second run came on an error by Centre that allowed Brian Williams to score. After holding Centre scoreless in the bottom of the seventh BSC exploded for five runs in the top of the eighth to regain the lead. In the eighth inning Cole Steadman singled in a run giving him 200 hits in his career. He is just the fifth BSC player in the Division III era with 200 or more hits.

BSC hung on to win the game and even added a run in the ninth to take the game 14-10.

Game two
Birmingham-Southern carried over the momentum from game one and completed the series sweep of Centre, defeating the Colonels 12-4.

BSC scored double-digit runs in each of the first three innings. Cole Steadman stayed hot hitting a two-run homerun in the top of the first inning to give the Panthers an early 2-0 lead. The Colonels also put up two runs in their half of the first. The Panthers put up four runs in the top of the second to regain the lead and then added three more in the third. After three full innings BSC led Centre 9-2. 

Centre tried to fight their way back but could not muster more than a run in any innings. Birmingham-Southern capped off the scoring with three runs in the seventh inning to extend their lead to 12-4. Ollie Livingston closed down the ninth inning and the Panthers completed the three-game sweep of Centre.
