BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's tennis team looked to make another victory on the weekend, after defeating Berry, but fell in a close match against conference foe Oglethorpe.
The Panthers took only one out of the three doubles matches, making
Wilbur Dotson and
Tanner Debardelaben the only doubles partners to sweep the weekend. The No. 3 doubles,
Tom Smith and
Dru Gresham, finished first but fell to Oglethorpe's Zoe Raymond and Cameron Burkers 8-1. No. 2
Hallet Green and
Tyler Guerra fell to their opponent in a close 8-7 match. The No. 1 duo of
Wilbur Dotson and
Tanner Debardelaben defeated Oglethorpe's No. 1, 8-6, to secure one point for the Panthers heading into singles play.
Birmingham-Southern looked to make a comeback in singles play, to hopefully take the another victory on the weekend. No. 1 singles
Hallet Green swept his opponent in 6-0 sets, finishing first. No. 2
Wilbur Dotson took down Oglethorpe's Daniel Cohen in a close first set 7-5, then finished it off 6-2. The No. 4 matchup was last to finish with
Tanner Debardelaben pushing through in a tie breaker set to win it for the Panthers. No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles all fell to Oglethorpe, resulting in an Oglethorpe victory 5-4.
