BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's tennis team bounced back from a tough rough weekend and took down Berry 6-3 on home courts.
The Panthers took two out of the three doubles matches, giving them an early lead to head into singles play. The No. 1 duo of
Wilbur Dotson and
Tanner Debardelaben defeated Berry's No. 1, 8-1. Our No. 2 doubles,
Hallet Green and
Elijah Ingleson, finished next, but fell to the Vikings 8-3. No. 3 doubles,
Tom Smith and
Tyler Guerra, finished last to secure the lead for the Panthers. Smith and Guerra took their opponent in a close 8-7 match.
Birmingham-Southern looked to capitalize on their 2-1 lead and take singles play. No. 1 singles
Hallet Green swept his opponent in 6-0 sets, finishing first. No. 4
Tanner Debardelaben took Berry's Connor Murphy 6-0, then 6-3. Not letting up on the momentum,
Wilbur Dotson finished with a 6-1 and 7-5 victory over his competition in a close last set. The final winner for the Panthers was No. 5
Tom Smith, winning 6-1 and 7-6 against Carsten Balao. The four wins in singles play secured the win for the Panthers and they defeated the Vikings 6-3.
