BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's tennis team made a comeback on the weekend and defeated Oglethorpe 8-1.
The Panthers swept doubles play over the Petrels. No. 2 doubles
Jenna Prater and
Sarah Rushing finished first with an 8-1 victory over the Petrels No. 2 doubles. Maddie Stewart and
Phoebe Shapard finished next at No. 1 with an 8-2 win, giving this duo a sweep on the weekend for the doubles matchups.
Isabella Lambert and
Anna Cate Weeks finished in a close match at 8-6 to take the final doubles victory for BSC.
Birmingham-Southern looked to capitalize on their 3-0 lead heading into singles play. No. 1
Maddi Stewart took down Oglethorpe's No. 1 at 6-2 and 6-1. No. 2
Phoebe Shapard fell to her opponent.
Jenna Prater in the No. 3 position took down Alyssa Merletti, 7-5 and 6-1. No. 4
Sarah Rushing defeated the No. 4 for Oglethorpe 6-4 adn then a close 7-6.
Isabella Lambert at No. 5 got a victory with a 6-2 and 7-5 win over her opponent. At the No. 6 position
Anna Cate Weeks finished it off for the Panthers with a 6-2 and 6-1 victory. Birmingham-Southern finished off the day with an 8-1 victory over Oglethorpe.
