ATLANTA, Ga. - Jack Fleming and
Ian Hancock powered the Panthers to an 8-7 win over Emory for a midweek victory. The win pushes the BSC winning streak up to eight games.
Emory was first on the board in the game. The Eagle leadoff hitter homered to left field to give Emory an early lead. The next inning Emory added a run after a balk pushed the run across. The Eagles then added one more in the third and took a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning.
The BSC bats woke up in the fourth inning as the offense was able to put up two runs in the inning.
Jack Fleming hit his 10th homerun of the year to drive in the two runs and cut the Emory lead to 3-2. BSC got right back to work in their half of the fifth inning posting five runs. Four of the runs came off the bat of
Ian Hancock who hit his third grand slam of the season. Following the homerun,
Brian Williams single and later advanced to second on a wild pitch. Fleming hit a single up the middle and brought in Williams for the Panthers to take a 7-3 lead.
Both teams went down quietly in the sixth, but BSC extended their lead in the seventh.
Alfredo Granier singled up the middle to bring in
Jack Fleming and the Panthers led 8-3 after seven innings.
After a scoreless eighth inning by the Panthers, Emory tacked a run on in the eighth to cut into the BSC lead. In the ninth
Davis Williams got the first two batters to fly out, but the Eagles fought back with two outs. After a hit batsmen and a single Robby Wacker hit a three-run homerun to pull the Eagles within one of the Panthers. Williams came right back and struckout the next hitter to secure the 8-7 victory over Emory.
