PANTHERS ADVANCE TO POD CHAMPIONSHIP

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Panthers defeated the fourth-seeded Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels and avenged their loss to the eighth-seeded Sewanee today to advance to the BSC Pod Championship.

Game one
In a game where the two teams combined for 15 runs it was the Stormy Petrels that got on the board first, but the BSC offense came alive late to scathe off elimination.

Oglethorpe pushed two runs across in the opening inning before the Panthers tied it up in the bottom of the second. Alfredo Granier and Andrew Dutton each drove in a run on RBI-singles to tie the game up. The following half inning the Stormy Petrels retook the lead scoring two runs on two hits in the inning.

The Panthers were held scoreless the next three innings but cut the Stormy Petrel lead in half after Granier hit an opposite field homerun to make the game 4-3. Again, Oglethorpe responded scoring two more runs in the top of the seventh to extend their lead to 6-3.

Down to their final six outs the Panther offense found their rhythm and exploded for six runs on four hits. Andrew Dutton doubled in two runs, Cole Steadman grounded out that drove in another run, Noah Best singled in a run, and Jack Fleming brought around two runs on a single to right field in the inning. The Panthers took a 9-6 lead to the ninth. Davis Williams set the Stormy Petrels down in order with a 1-2-3 inning to help the Panthers survive and advance in the tournament.
