PANTHERS TAKE RUBBER MATCH

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern baseball team defeated Hendrix 15-7 to take the rubber match in the series. Four student-athletes recorded multiple hits in the game en route to the Panthers out hitting Hendrix 12-6.

The Birmingham-Southern offense started slow as the Hendrix starting pitcher held them scoreless through the first four innings of play. Hendrix scratched across a run in the second and fifth inning and led 2-0 after four and half innings of play.

In the bottom of the fifth inning the Panthers erupted for nine runs. All nine runs came with two outs in the inning. BSC recorded nine hits, and took advantage of three Warrior errors to take a 9-2 lead. A quick, scoreless sixth inning by Joey White completed his day. White finished after throwing six innings, allowing three hits, striking out three, and allowing two runs (one earned).

In the top of the seventh inning Hendrix fought their way back in the game scoring five runs on just a single hit. The Birmingham-Southern bullpen walked four batters and hit another in the inning that kick started the inning. After the inning the Warriors cut the lead to 9-7.

The Panther offense got three of the five runs back in the bottom half of the inning. Austin Gentry reached on an error helping bring home a run, and the other two came off the bat of Will Lantis with a two RBI single. BSC added three more on in the bottom of the eighth and took the rubber match of the series 15-7.
