BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern softball team shutout LaGrange in their doubleheader on Wednesday, March 30. The Panthers put up 8 runs in the first game to run-rule LaGrange in the bottom of the sixth, taking it 8-0. The second game ended in the second run-rule of the day with BSC taking the game 10-2.
Game one
Hailee Bryan got things rolling for the Panthers, striking out her first two batters of the games to start a 1-2-3 inning for BSC in the top of the first. Offensively,
Jada Askew brought in the first run for the Panthers in the bottom of the first with a single through the left side that scored
Morgan McGuire. The top of the second brought another 1-2-3 inning for Bryan that she finished off with a strikeout.
The bottom of the second brought in two runs on three hits for the Panthers with
Izzy Berkopec stealing home as the first run of the inning.
Sam Hilyer singled through the left side to score
Cassidy Dickson, bringing the Panthers lead to 3-0 over LaGrange. Bryan kept things going defensively facing three batters in the top of the third and not allowing a hit, while striking out the last batter. BSC saw another run from
Alyssa Fowler in the bottom of the third, while Bryan struck out three out of four batters faced in the top of the fourth to keep the score at 4-0. The Panthers defense kept LaGrange from scoring a single run, while BSC added a run in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the bottom of the sixth to run-rule LaGrange 8-0.

LaGrange was the first on the board, putting up two runs in the top of the first. Birmingham-Southern did not put up a run until the bottom of the second when

Leah Wood. The Panthers took the lead in the bottom of the third after a single from
Leah Wood that scored
Kailey Walters and a passed ball that brought in
Izzy Berkopec.
Hailee Bryan came in to pitch in the top of the fourth and had a 1-2-3 inning to keep the lead for BSC. In the bottom of the fourth, the Panthers put up six runs on six hits.
Kailey Walters had a sacrifice fly that brought in
Alyssa Fowler. An RBI single for
Izzy Berkopec brought in
Jada Askew and
Leah Wood hit a 3 run homerun to make it 8-2.
Alyssa Fowler brought in the last run of the innings when she drew a bases loaded walk, extending the Panthers lead to 9-2.
Kailey Walters scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the fifth that gave the Panthers the run-rule score at 10-2.
