BSC ENDS SEASON IN SUPER REGIONAL ROUND

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern baseball team ended their season a week earlier than they anticipated as they fell to Trinity (Texas) in game two of the Super Regional round by a score of 14-8. The Panthers battled back after going down by seven runs early to tie the game, but the Tigers ninth inning was too much to overcome.

Trinity got on the board early taking a 1-0 lead after the first inning of play on a sac fly. Carter Tyus worked out of a bases loaded no out situation and limited the Tigers to just one run in the inning, which gave the Panthers a little momentum headed into the bottom of the inning. The Panthers were held scoreless before the Tigers broke the game open in the second inning.

In the second inning Trinity took advantage of a BSC error and scored six unearned runs to take a 7-0 lead after two innings of play. After holding Trinity scoreless in the third, Birmingham-Southern started to chip away at the Tigers lead. In the bottom of the third inning BSC plated two runs on two hits in the third to cut into the lead. Trinity and Birmingham-Southern each scored a run in the fourth.

The Panthers cut into the lead even more in the fifth after scoring another run. After five innings of play the Panthers trailed 8-4. The BSC pitching staff help the Tigers scoreless in innings five, six, and seven. During those three innings the Panthers outscored Trinity 5-0 and wound up tying the game in the seventh. Cole Steadman singled through the left side of the infield bringing in Will Lantis to tie the game 8-8.

With momentum squarely on the Panthers side the game headed to the eighth inning. In the top of the eighth the leadoff hitter for the Tigers got on with a double. Davis Williams proceeded to get the next two hitters out. With momentum starting to get back on the Panther side, a Trinity single stopped that from happening. The single scored a Tiger run to give them a 9-8 lead.

The Panthers were held scoreless in the eighth and the game moved to the final inning. The Trinity bats got hot in the final inning scoring five runs on five hits to put the game out of reach. With three outs to go and down by six runs, the Panthers went 1-2-3 in the final inning. The win gave Trinity the series win, and Birmingham-Southern's season ended in the Super Regional round.
