BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - As preseason gradually draws to a close, the Birmingham-Southern volleyball team hosted University of Montevallo for a preseason exhibition match. BSC would fall in four sets to the Division II opponent.

BSC and Montevallo went back and forth for the first part of the opening set. With both teams tied 7-7, the Falcons went on a 6-2 run to pull ahead 13-9. The Panthers did not back down as they battled back pulling within one point after an attack error by the Falcons. BSC and Montevallo traded points before the Falcons closed out the set 25-21.

Montevallo got out to a hot start in the second set taking a quick 7-1 lead over the Panthers. Again, BSC fought back and pulled within one point on an Emily Buhl kill to cut the lead to 8-7. The Panthers and Falcons traded points before Birmingham-Southern went on a three point run to tie the game at 16. Unfortunately, BSC could not pull ahead and Montevallo pulled away with a a 25-20 set two victory.

Birmingham-Southern fell behind early but battled back to win set three. After a back and forth start a few attack errors, and kills by Alyssa Coats and Gigi Fields put the Panthers up 14-8. The Panthers and Falcons traded points for the rest of the set and BSC took set three 25-18.

The Panthers came out in set four scoring the first two points of the match. Montevallo responded scoring four of the next five points to regain the lead. It would not be for long as BSC went on a 3-0 run to take an early 6-4 lead. They then extended their lead after a couple kills and an attack error to take a 9-5 lead. Montevallo found their groove and found themselves with the lead after going on a 10-3 run. Montevallo carried that momentum as they finished of the match with a 25-23 win. 

With the game being deemed and exhibition it did not affect the records of the two teams.
