BIRMINGHAM, AL. - The Birmingham-Southern volleyball team competed in two SAA matchups on the weekend.
Game 1 vs. Berry
Berry came in as the #13 team in the country and proved to be a very tough opponent. The Vikings started off with a 11-2 run, dominating the first set with nine kills and only one error. Four kills in the first set by Berry player Jazzy Innis led the Vikings to a 25-13 1st set win.
Set two and three were much more competitive as BSC set and passed the ball much better. It was a team effort in the 2nd set with
Kylie Wilhelmi,
Claire Hayes,
Emily Buhl, and
Madison Williams all receiving multiple kills. The Panthers struggled with 9 attacking errors in all three sets, which prevented them from winning a set.
Kylie Wilhelmi led the team with six kills, Ainsley Shults added 23 assist. Berry player Olivia Mallow added five blocks herself as the Vikings had nine total blocks.
The winning point came on a kill by Bella Boston, assisted by Lindsey MacDiarmid. Berry wins the match 3-0.

Game 2 vs. Oglethorpe
Game 2 of the weekend was an important one as Oglethorpe came in tied with BSC in the SAA standings. Both teams were tied at 4-9 and looking to move up the SAA standings.
Set one was won by Oglethorpe with 14 total kills, six coming from Cate Rosenthal and Ashlynn Stephens. BSC hurt themselves with a 0.063 hitting %, but added 10 kills to keep the first set close.
BSC dominated the next three sets as they would only accumulate 12 errors over that period of time.
Kylie Wilhelmi (12),
Claire Hayes (11), and
Emily Buhl (10) all finished with double digit kills. The Panthers hit a much better percentage with over a 0.227 over the final three sets.
Ainsley Schultz added 35 assist and
Claire Hayes rejecting the Petrels hitting attempts with five blocks.
Abby Dunford led the team with 16 digs.
Birmingham-Southern wins the Match 3-1 on an attacking error from Oglethorpe. This places BSC as the #5 seed headed into the SAA Tournament in two weeks.
