DANVILLE, KY. – The Birmingham-Southern football team was defeated at Centre for the final game of the 2023 season.
The Panthers started of with the ball, gaining only nine yards on four plays. Centre took over at their own 46 and strung together a couple of good plays that stalled at the BSC 32 yard line. The only score of the quarter came after a 6:52 second drive that ended on a Centre field goal. The panthers put together a six minute drive to start the 2nd quarter, that was capped off by a nine yard pass complete to
Baylor Borden from
Matt McClary. Another long drive from Centre would put them in front 10-6. Keaton Martin scored on a five yard run down the middle.
Javien Beene intercepted Centre on their first dive after halftime. BSC would start with great field position at Centre's 19 yard line, but the drive would stall after a sack and two incompletions. BSC had a few drives in the 4th quarter to get points, but nothing would accumulate.
Cole Porch punted the ball five times with a long of 53. The BSC rushing attack put together 129 yards on the ground. The defense did a great job all day holding Centre to just 10 points, 98 passing yards, and only 233 total yards.
David Cresson Jr. ended with 11 total tackles.
Ricky Spence Jr. has been a highlight for this defense all year, and he has now broken the school record for sacks (9.0) and tackles for loss (16.5).
