LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Despite a heart-breaking one-point loss on Friday, the Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team picked up their first win of the season against Covenant after a 17-point comeback.
Game 1 vs. Greenville
The Panthers were led by sophomore point guard
Sheraton Foster who finished as the game's top scorer with 15 points on 5-10 shooting including 2-3 from behind the three-point arc. She also led her team in rebounds with five and provided an assist. Sophomore guard
Maya Cable also had an efficient night offensively with 10 points on 4-8 shooting.
Ajailah Ogiemwonyi and
Audra Putman provided eight points each for BSC with seven total rebounds between them.
Greenville was lead by Carolina Hoffman and Savana Powell-Goodman with 10 points a piece.
The game would remain tight throughout the whole contest with eight ties and eleven lead changes. At the end of the first 10 minutes of play, Greenville lead 14-13. With 6:12 left in the second quarter, 'Southern took their first lead of the night on a
Sheraton Foster three-pointer assisted by
Imani Thompson. Greenville then stretched their lead to as much as six after a couple of threes but only lead by three heading into the break.
After trailing by six in the third period, the Panthers went on an 11-0 run in three minutes of play to take a five-point lead. However, Greenville then went on a 10-0 run before
Sheraton Foster scored with three seconds left in the quarter to stop the momentum. The Panthers went into the fourth quarter trailing by three. With about seven minutes left to play, BSC took their first lead of the fourth quarter on a
Maya Cable three. Greenville then jumped out to a six-point lead again immediately after. The Panthers cut the deficit to one with 1:37 to go, but neither team found the basket again for the remaining minutes. Greenville went home with the 58-57 win on the night.

Game 2 vs. Covenant
BSC was led by
Maya Cable with 18 points on 50% shooting from the field for the second consecutive game. She also had an assist, three rebounds, and a steal.
Montana Harris recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds and 10 assists including a dominant five offensive rebounds.
Sheraton Foster also scored double digits with 10 points. She also led the game with four steals and had three assists and four rebounds.
DeKerriya Daniel was very impactful off the bench with eight points and five rebounds.
Karis McIntosh led Covenant with 18 points including 5-10 from three. Breezy Savage was also a major contributor with 12 points.
The Panthers got off to a slow start against Covenant with the Scots taking a 20-10 lead at the end of the first quarter after shooting 5-6 from three and over 71% from the field. They then continued their momentum into the second period where they led 31-14 with 4:17 to go. The Panthers cut the deficit to nine at the half but still had lots of work to do in the second half of play.
Roughly halfway through the third quarter, 'Southern trailed 40-28 in what looked like an off night. However, the Panthers then went on a 15-0 run headlined by their defensive efforts with eight forced turnovers in just over five minutes. BSC took a 43-40 lead into the final 10 minutes of action after winning the third 19-7. In the fourth quarter, the Panthers never let the Scots regain the lead. With 4:27 to go, the Panthers took a comfortable eight-point lead after Montana stayed with her blocked shot and finished strong in the paint. They then lead by as many as nine with a minute to go in the game where they would close things out with a 58-51 victory on the night.
