Birmingham, AL - The Panthers women's basketball team opened the season at home vs. the University of Mobile.
1st half:
Both teams came out a little slow with a couple of missed shots and turnovers in the first three minutes. The scoring started on a layup by
Maya Cable. Mobile ended the 1st quarter on a 10-1 run giving them a 24-14 lead. The 2nd quarter would follow much of the same script as the 1st did, with Mobile holding a double digit lead. BSC did cut the lead down to seven with a jumper by
Sheraton Foster. Mobile would go on to take a 39-25 into halftime. Mobile hit 40% from field goal range and 13% from 3-point range. BSC shot 37% from field goal range and 14% from 3-point range, only attempting seven 3-pointers.
2nd half:
Mobile dominated the boards with eight more offensive rebounds than BSC. This trend continued into the second half as Mobile continued to get second chance points. Mobile jumped out to a 20 point lead before
Montana Harris and Maya cable got a couple of late buckets to stop the bleeding. The lead would stall at 13 points before a 5-0 run at the end of the 3rd quarter. Mobile finished with 28 fast break points and 32 points off of turnovers. The active defense of the Rams earned 18 steals which led to all of those fast break points. The 4th quarter saw the Rams expand their lead to 25 points before a 8-0 run by BSC to make the score 71-59. Two late 3-pointers iced the game for the Mobile rams leaving the final score at 79-61.
Montana Harris led all scorer's with 21, Erica Jones following with 20 points.
