PANTHERS LOSE OVERTIME THRILLER IN JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI


1st half: BSC jumped out to a 9-2 lead with two 3-point shots made in the first three possessions. The Blazers then went on a 12-4 run to take the their first lead of the game. A jumper by Damien Wheaton put Belhaven to its largest lead at 5 points. A 10-2 run by BSC would put them in front with five different scorers in the first half. Both teams did not shoot the ball particular well, with only four 3-pointers made in the 1st half. Birmingham Southern took a 25-22 lead into halftime.

2nd half/OT: The end of the first half propelled Birmingham-Southern to a nine point lead with 14:34 to go in the game, but the Blazers did not back down. Belhaven kept it close on the back of Jacob Reese's 26 points it just 29 minutes. He would lead the Blazers to their first lead since the 1st half with just 1:27 remaining. With 20 seconds remaining and the Panthers down by three points, Josh Spence inbounded the ball to Dylan Patrick. Patrick dribbled the ball up the court passing it to Kaleb Green who drills a 3-point shot to send the game into overtime. He also did this in the first game against Belhaven, but this time three seconds remained. Luke Couch had a chance at the buzzer but just missed off the front of the rim. Overtime was back and forth with the game tied at 72 a piece until a 6-0 run ended the game for the blazers. Jay Gillispe Finished with a double-double performance of 18 points and 12 boards. Kaleb Green led the Panthers with 19 points. Brandan Copeland is now averaging 12.4 points per game with his 14 points off the bench. Three Panthers fouled out of the game including two in overtime.
