MARSHALL, Tx. - The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team traveled for Texas for two games this weekend.
Game 1:
Birmingham-Southern faced off against the University of St. Thomas (Texas) in game 1.
Summer Killin gave us the first three points of the game with a layup and a free-throw. A low scoring first quarter saw St. Thomas lead 8-7. Both teams shot under 30% from field goal range, which would improve in the second quarter.
Montana Harris came alive after not scoring in the first quarter with an made basket and free-throw after a foul. 10 points from
Maya Cable led BSC at halftime. St. Thomas led 22-20 at the half.
St. Thomas would come out on a 18-4 run to take a 16 point lead late in the third quarter. The Panthers shooting woes would continue with just 13 field goals made and only one three-point shot made. Montanna Harris would get the lead down to nine after a pair of free-throws. 3:19 left in the game and BSC had a chance down 52-43. The Lions could not be stopped as they ended the game on an 8-2 run to win 60-45. Birmingham-Southern was led by 14 points and seven rebounds from
Maya Cable.

Game 2:
The Panthers would finish up their Texas trip with game 2 against East Texas Baptist University. In the 1st quarter, BSC shot the ball much better than they did in game 1, shooting 36%. BSC had a hard time containing ETBU with only four missed shots in the first 10 minutes. ETBU sharp shooting put them up 21-13 at the first break. BSC opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run to cut the lead down to one. Three straight turnovers from BSC helped ETBU to an 11-0 run and a 34-23 lead at the half.
The Tigers started the second half on an 11-2 run to take a 21 point lead. The game of basketball is built on scoring runs and the Tigers have taken advantage of those. In the third quarter, BSC only scored 12 points compared to the Tigers 29. This would open up a 28 point margin and the Panthers would never catch up. Birmingham-Sothern was led by 13 points from
Sheraton Foster.
