JACKSON, Ms. - The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team lost by a score of 37-64.
On Sunday, the women's basketball team traveled to Jackson, Mississippi to face their first conference opponent in Millsaps. The first quarter was dominated by Millsaps shooting 10-15 from field goal range and scoring 25 points. The Majors jumped out to a 12-2 lead with three, three-pointers made. The Panthers fought back with a lay in from Lauryn Towns to make the score 10-14. The lead opened all the way to 12 where it stayed for most of the 2nd quarter. BSC made just two three-pointers in the entire game, both coming in the first half.
In the second half the Panthers would really struggle getting the ball in the basket. Birmingham-Southern made a total of four field goals in the 2nd half with a nine minute field goal drought to end the 3rd quarter. The lead got to as much as 29 points just before the game ended. 31 bench points for Millsaps led by freshman Elsyse Warren with 18 points, led the Majors to a conference victory. Birmingham-Southern was led by Lauryn Towns with 11 points and seven boards. BSC will look to bounce back against Huntingdon on Sunday.
