BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After picking up a victory against the No. 2 ranked team in the country, Birmingham-Southern bounced right back with an 11-7 victory over a familiar foe. BSC defeated the Millsaps Majors in non-conference action to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Josh Leerssen (1-0) picked up his first victory of the season after going six innings giving up just one hit allowing no runs and striking out 10.
Ricky Harrison and
Ian Burnstine pitched the final three innings out of the bullpen striking out five.
Millsaps starter Jackson Hood (0-1) was charged with the loss, as he gave up five runs on five hits in fiv innings.
After a scoreless first three innings, Birmingham-Southern got on the board after Eli Steadman doubled in Jack Fleming for the first run of the game. BSC added to the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a solo blast from Ian Hancock.
The Panthers exploded for nine runs in the sixth inning scoring on five hits and one error. Hancock would hit another home run in the inning this time a three-run shot to right field.
The Majors fought back scoring five in the top of the sevent and two in the top of the ninth but it would be too little too late as BSC held on to win 11-7.
