PANTHERS EARN TWO MORE WINS AHEAD OF CONFERENCE OPENER

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Birmingham-Southern softball put up two more wins on the season in their midweek match up against Covenant, ahead of their conference opener on Saturday.

Game one
Birmingham-Southern was the first on the board when Margaret Axelson singled to left field to bring in Alyssa Fowler. Caroline Campbell started off in the circle for the Panthers. Hailee Bryan came in to get out of the inning with three left on base in the bottom of the first. In the bottom of the second, Bryan faced four batters and struck out two to get out of the inning. Starting off the fourth, with runners on second and third, Katie Wood hit a double to left center to make it 3-0. Bryan kept things going in the circle, seeing a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the fourth.

Covenant put up two runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth to make it a one-run game. Olivia Trout came in to pitch in the bottom of the sixth, facing three batters and striking out one. Trout finished off the game, striking out the last batter for Covenant to secure the win for Birmingham-Southern earn the save.

Game two
Birmingham-Southern started off the second game of the double-header strong, putting up four runs in the first inning. Izzy Berkopex brought in the first run with an RBI double to left center that scored Morgan McGuire. Alyssa Fowler and Jordyn Green both drove in a run with RBI singles to center field. To bring in the final run of the inning, Krislyn Dapprich hit a two out double to score Leah Wood. Margaret Axelson cleared the first inning with three-up-three-down. The Panthers added on two more runs on one hit in the top of the second. The first run coming in from a sacrifice fly from Izzy Berkopec, allowing Katie Hart to score. Alyssa Fowler popped up to the shortstop and Morgan McGuire was able to score on the throw. Axelson kept things moving, striking out four in the next two innings and allowing the only two hits of the game for Covenant. The top of the fourth saw two runs on two hits for Birmingham-Southern and an error for the Scots, before another run was added in the fifth making it 9-0. Axelson finished off the game with six strikeouts, two walks and allowing two hits in five innings pitched.
