ATLANTA - The Birmingham-Southern Panthers struggled to shoot the ball in their 101-91 loss to Oglethorpe University on Friday night in Dorough Field House. BSC shot just under 35 percent from the floor in the loss.
Birmingham-Southern finished the first half shooting a tick over 30 percent and went into half trailing by 17. The Panthers outscored the Petrels by 15 in the third quarter to pull within two points. BSC would tie the game at 78 before falling behind to enter the fourth quarter. Birmingham-Southern's shooting woes came back in the fourth quarter and the Panthers were unable to complete the comeback, falling 101-91.
Four Panthers scored in double figures in the game. Brooke Westhoelter led the bunch, finishing with 17 points, two rebounds and a game-high five assists. Sameera Elmasri recorded her sixth double-figure performance over her last seven games. Alex Lewis and Montana Harris combined for 21 to rounds out the double-digit scorers.
The Stormy Petrels were led by a pair 20 point scorers in Morgan Skipper and Keimarya Rivera. Skipper led all scorers with a 25-point, four-rebound performance. Rivera posted a 22-point nine-rebound outing in the win.
What it means
With the loss the Birmingham-Southern is now tied with Millsaps, Berry, and Oglethorpe at 5-5 in the conference. Only two of the four teams tied will be able to host the first round of the SAA Conference tournament.
