SOFTBALL FALLS IN TOUGH MATCHUP AGAINST #5 BERRY

Mount Berry, Ga. - No. 13 Birmingham-Southern softball fell in a close conference matchup with top ranked No. 5 Berry College. The Panthers dropped both games in the doubleheader on Friday with the Vikings putting up three homeruns in the second game of the series. 

In the first game of the day the Vikings were the first on the board with three runs scoring in the bottom of the first. Two RBI singles for Berry put up their first two runs, followed by an error for Birmingham-Southern that added the third run. The final run for Berry was scored in the bottom of the third in a groundout play. The Panthers were unable to capitalize on any plays, but held the Vikings to their four runs for the next three innings. 

In the nightcap against Berry, the Vikings were the first on the board again with an RBI double to right field. In the bottom of the fourth, the Vikings led off with a solo homerun to left field to add their second run. Alyssa Fowler drove in the only run for the Panthers with an RBI bunt that scored Cassidy Dickson. Another solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth added the third run, followed by a two-run homerun in the same inning to earn their five runs. The Panthers were unable to fight off the Vikings offense and fell in both games of the doubleheader.
