BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern baseball team was defeated in games two and three of the final regular season series of the season against the Hendrix Warriors. However, the Panthers still clinched the SAA regular season title and will host in the SAA Tournament.
Game two
After a scoreless top of the first for BSC, Hendrix opened the scoring on an infield single to take a 1-0 lead. The Warriors then added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single. They then added a fourth run in the bottom of the third inning on a passed ball while the Panthers struggled to get on the board. The fourth inning was scoreless, and Hendrix then scored a fifth run on a sac fly in the bottom of the fifth.
Cam McNearney opened the scoring for the Panthers with a double in the top of the sixth inning. In the top of the seventh,
Ty Truett tripled to score another run for the Panthers and then Wes Diamantis knocked in another run to cut the deficit to two. The Panthers added runs late, but their three runs would ultimately not be enough to mount a comeback in game two. The Warriors earned the win by a score of 5-3.
Game three
In game three, the Panthers could not get things going early with a scoreless top of the first. The Warriors then scored the first run of the game on an RBI single which would end up being the game's only run. The remainder of the game remained scoreless, and Hendrix won by a score of 1-0 after seven innings because of the game being the second of a double header. BSC's struggles at the plate continued as they only earned two hits on the afternoon. Despite the loss,
Hansen McCown had a great day on the mound only allowing three hits and one run in six innings pitched.
