MT. BERRY, Ga. - The Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team suffered defeat in their SAA Tournament Quarterfinal game on Friday against Sewanee.
How it happened
- Sewanee got off to a hot start by scoring the first four goals on the afternoon.
- BSC's Elizabeth Mitchell ended the 4-0 run with a goal, and Margot Peters quickly added her first of five total goals to cut the deficit to two.
- The Tigers scored a late goal at the end of the opening quarter to take a 5-2 lead.
- The second quarter was much tighter, but Sewanee won the quarter by a goal to take a 7-4 lead into the half.
- The Tigers scored two goals inside the opening five minutes of the second half, but the Panthers rallied back with three unanswered to make the score 10-7.
- After back-and-forth action, Sewanee took a 12-8 lead heading into the final period.
- The first half of the fourth quarter saw the Tigers extend their lead to five, but the Panthers did not give up and then cut the lead to three with 3:31 to go.
- However, a late goal from Sewanee would put the game out of reach and solidify the quarterfinal win for Sewanee 17-13.
