PANTHERS NARROWLY DEFEATED IN SAA SEMIS VS #1 SEED

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team was defeated in the SAA semifinals by top seed Centre College on Friday. After an extremely close and back-and-forth game, the Panthers couldn't quite hold off the Colonels to advance to the SAA Championship.

How it happened

  • After a very tight opening eight minutes, Reid Harrison scored the game's first goal for BSC. Bowen Harris then added a second a little over two minutes later.
  • Centre then answered with two goals inside the final thirty seconds of the first quarter to tie the game 2-2.
  • The Colonels continued their run with three more goals to start the second period to give themselves a 5-2 lead.
  • Robert Marquet scored to end the 5-0 run for Centre, but the Colonels did not slow down. They went on to win the second quarter 5-2 and took a 9-5 lead into halftime.
  • The Panthers started fast coming out of the break with two goals inside of the opening minute of the third quarter.
  • However, Centre eventually replied with two of their own to regain their four goal lead.
  • BSC then quickly fired two in the back of the net to cut the deficit to two, but the Colonels caught fire and went on a 3-0 run to end the third period and took a 14-9 lead.
  • In the final quarter, Centre scored the first goal to stretch their lead to six. However, the Panthers then started their comeback and scored four unanswered goals in a little over four minutes to make the score 15-13.
  • The Colonels eventually scored to end the run, but BSC stayed hot and scored three straight goals to tie the game with 2:17 to go.
  • Centre then scored with 1:29 to go to retake the lead. The Panthers ultimately could not force overtime, and the Colonels went on to win 17-16 to advance to the SAA Championship.
