BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern baseball team run-ruled their opponent for the second consecutive game, but this time it was against the Millsaps Majors in the SAA tournament second round.
The first inning was scoreless, and in the bottom of the second inning, the Panthers got on the board first when
Jakob Zito hit a sac fly to center field to score
Noah Best. BSC then doubled their lead later in the inning when
Will Lantis hit an RBI double to left center. The Majors then got a run back in the top of the third inning on an RBI single.
BSC failed to stretch their lead in the bottom of the third inning, but in the next inning,
Jackson Webster led off and hit a homer to right field to regain momentum for the Panthers and make the score 3-1. In the bottom of the fifth,
Cam McNearney hit a triple after a great hit to right center. The next batter,
Ian Hancock, then hit a homerun to right field to add onto the BSC lead.
The Panthers went into the sixth inning up 5-1 but did not stop there. After a double from
Luke DePiero and a walk from
Andrew Dutton,
Cam McNearney knocked in a run on a sac fly to give the Panthers a 6-1 lead. In the next at-bat, a wild pitch brought
Andrew Dutton home to make the score 7-1. Then, doubles from
Jackson Webster and
Jack Fleming gave the Panthers an 11-1 lead heading into the seventh.
Joey White was excellent on the mound and pitched all seven innings for the Panthers only allowing five hits and one run. His dominance in addition to BSC's powerful hitting gave the Panthers an 11-1 win on the evening.
