LOOKOUT MTN., Ga. - The Birmingham-Southern volleyball team was defeated on the road against a tough Covenant Scots team on Tuesday night. 

The Panthers jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead in set one thanks to two Emily Buhl kills to open the set. After back-and-forth play, the Panthers put together four-straight points led by two Taylor Bentley kills to take a 10-5 lead. BSC held off Covenant for the whole set and had a 16-13 lead before piecing together a 6-1 run to go up 22-14. The Panthers went on to win the opening set 25-17 and took a 1-0 lead early.

In set two, the Scots came out firing. They led by a score of 16-3 with eleven unanswered points before a service error stopped the bleeding for BSC. The Panthers cut the deficit to nine, but the mountain was too high to climb in set two. Covenant tied the match up at 1-1 after a 25-13 set two victory.

The Panthers took a quick 5-2 lead in set three after back-to-back Ainsley Schultz service aces. However, Covenant strung together eight-straight points to take control. BSC traded points with the Scots, but they couldn't make the deficit smaller than four in the third set. Covenant took a 2-1 lead in the match and won set three 25-19.

In set four, the Panthers looked to stop Covenant's momentum and force a fifth set. However, the Scots picked up where they left off in the previous set and jumped out to a 7-3 lead. The Panthers continued to battle and cut the deficit to one with a score of 14-13 Scots, but they couldn't quite tie the set up. BSC made the score 21-19 late after three-straight points, but Covenant ultimately closed out what would be the final set by a score of 25-20 to take a 3-1 win on the night.
