SAN ANTONIO, Tx. - After suffering defeat to #15 Oshkosh, the Birmingham-Southern volleyball team earned their first win of the season in the final game of the Trinity Invitational vs. Whitworth.
Game 1 vs. Wisconsin-Oshkosh
In set one, the Panthers jumped out to a 3-1 lead, but the Titans responded by taking a 10-4 lead. BSC couldn't quite get things going, and Oshkosh went on to win the set 25-10.
Set two saw Oshkosh take an early 4-1 lead, but this time the Panthers caught fire and took a 12-6 lead. After some back-and-forth play, BSC had a 17-11 lead over halfway through the set. After a couple of kills by
Madison Williams,
Claire Hayes got a kill of her own to give the Panthers a late 22-18 lead. However, the Titans then pieced together seven-straight points to win the set 25-22.
In set three, Oshkosh held an 11-8 lead after rallies from both sides. The Panthers then were not able to cut into the deficit and slowly saw the Oshkosh lead stretch. The Titans went on to win set three 25-13 to give themselves the victory.

Game 2 vs. Whitworth
Set one saw the Panthers and The Pirates tied at three early on. BSC then strung together five-straight points led by
Sydney Bixby and
Ainsley Schultz kills. After close play for a majority of the set, Whitworth tied the set at 21. However, the Panthers never trailed and finished strong to win the set 25-23.
In set two, both sides went back-and-forth once again and were tied at seven early on. Whitworth then started to rally and took a 16-10 lead. The Panthers cut the deficit to four late in the set after a
Taylor Bentley kill making the score 22-18. However, they couldn't quite mount a comeback and lost the set 25-19.
Whitworth jumped out to an early 8-5 lead in set three, but this time, BSC caught fire. The Panthers rallied to take a 12-9 lead and looked in control. However, the Pirates then got hot themselves and had an 18-14 lead later in the set.
Ainsley Schultz's two service aces fueled the comeback for the Panthers, and they went on to win set three 25-22.
Set four was no different from the rest in terms of close play. The teams saw ties at 7-7, 11-11, 15-15, and 18-18. BSC then exploded for six-straight points to take a commanding 24-18 lead. Whitworth managed to then score four-straight points, but an attack error by Whitworth gave the Panthers the 25-22 win in set four and their first win of the season.
