MEN'S SOCCER FALLS SHORT AT EMORY

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team was defeated by #19 Emory in Atlanta on Wednesday night.

Emory got off to a quick start with a goal from Parker Morford in the seventh minute of action. Morford got on the end of a teasing ball across the six-yard box by Josh Grand to put the Eagles up 1-0. The Panthers then reclaimed decent possession, and Vittorio Vopicelli had BSC's first shot on goal saved a few minutes later. Emory would double their lead after 18 minutes of play on a counter from a BSC turnover in their own defensive third. Joe Beare slotted the ball into the bottom left corner from the center of the box. The Panthers did not drop their heads and did record four shots on goal including one from Caleb Pruett at the very end of the first half. However, they could not get on the board and went into halftime down 2-0.

Early in the second half, the Eagles drew a foul from the Panthers in the box and were awarded a penalty kick. Senior Alejandro Gomez stepped up and placed it into the right side of the net to extend the lead for Emory. The Panthers struggled to get any great looks at goal throughout the half but in the last twelve minutes, they picked it up a level. BSC created a few great chances including looks from Max Albertson and Caleb Pruett. However, the Panthers couldn't quite get one in the back of the net and fell to Emory on the night 3-0.
