Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

BSC COMPLETES COMEBACK IN SAA OPENER VS. HENDRIX

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After giving up an early goal, the Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team scored two second half goals to become 1-0 in conference play.

The beginning of the game did not see much action in front of goal. In fact, it wasn't until 12 minutes in that Alessandro Jr. recorded the first shot of the game on a chip just over the crossbar. The Panthers had lots of possession early but could not get any additional quality looks at the Hendrix goal. In the 19th minute, Hendrix's Landon Whisenant pounced on a loose ball after a miscommunication in the back by BSC to give the Warriors the lead. Hendrix the took their 1-0 lead into halftime.

The Panthers came out with new life at the start of the second half. The intensity picked up in the attacking half, and after six minutes of play, defender Trey Kirksey evened the score on an outside of the foot finish into the left side of the net. The goal was the first of Kirksey's career. Roughly 20 minutes later, Cesar Hurtado cut in from the left side of the field and found Patrick Kelly's run through the middle of the Hendrix back line where he poked it home to put the Panthers ahead 2-1. BSC continued to have good possession until a skirmish in the 82nd minute saw BSC go down to 10 men on a second yellow card. Down a man, 'Southern was strong in defense and held on to take the win over Hendrix 2-1 in the conference opener.
