BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Despite some great play and chances on goal, the Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team fell to Hendrix on SAA opening weekend on Saturday.
The Panthers got off to a great start in the match with an early goal from
Halle Morton on a fantastic strike with the laces into the far left corner of the goal for her second of the season. BSC continued to have good possession of the ball for the next few minutes but was not able to create any additional looks at goal. After a little over 15 minutes of play, Madison Lampkin scored the equalizer for the Warriors on their third chance of the match. Immediately after the goal, BSC's
Abby Morrow saw her shot hit the crossbar and go away from goal. The Panthers continued to push for their second goal but couldn't quite get one into the back of the net. Both teams went into the half with a goal each.
In the second half, both sides recorded two shots each before Madison Lampkin got her brace in the 66th minute to give Hendrix a 2-1 lead. The remainder of the half was a tight one with both sides not getting a ton of great chances. With a few minutes to go, 'Southern had to throw numbers forward to try and get the tying goal. However, Madison Lampkin completed her hat trick in the 90th minute of the match to solidify the 3-1 win for the Warriors on the afternoon.
