MEN'S SOCCER OUTLASTS LAGRANGE

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern men's soccer opens it's season with a 1-0 victory over the LaGrange Panthers.

It was a hot day for soccer as BSC out shot LaGrange 8-5 in the first half with the lone goal coming in the 16th minute. The goal came after a cross from Trey Kirksey that was deflected and then scored by Vittorio Vopicelli.

The rest of the half saw a couple of opportunities from each side, but the half ultimately ended with a 1-0 lead for BSC.

Birmingham-Southern immediately had a scoring opportunity as the 2nd half began. Alessandro Junior beat one defender to get a shot off that was saved by Andrew Cole.

LaGrange also saw a chance early in the second half with two shots by Lucas Duke, that were both saved by Jayden Schell.

A total of 13 shots granted LaGrange many chances in the second half, but Jayden Schell and the Birmingham-Southern defense kept them out of the net. Four yellow cards came out in the 2nd half, all going to LaGrange.

Both goalkeepers had four saves, ending the game with a 1-0 victory for BSC.

With this performance, both the Panthers prove to be quality opponents throughout the season.
