PANTHERS NEVER TRAIL IN FIRST ROAD WIN OF 2024

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team advanced to 2-0 on Thursday night with a win on the road against Pfeiffer at Catawaba College.

How it happened

The Panthers got off to a great start with Austin Johnson putting one in the back of the net after less than two minutes of play. 'Southern then doubled their lead almost two minutes later on a Cameron Herd goal for his ninth in two games. After three early saves from Nathan Pepe, the Falcons got on the board with a goal with 6:29 remaining in the opening quarter. Kyle Winter then put in the response for BSC, giving them a 3-1 lead after 15 minutes.

The second quarter was a defensive battle with neither team allowing an opening in their net. With 2:45 remaining in the half, Pfeiffer finally broke the stalemate and cut into the BSC lead. Both teams failed to score for the remainder of the quarter, leaving BSC in a scoring drought since 4:35 remaining in the first quarter. However, the Panthers still lead at the break, 3-2.

After only one goal in the second period, the Falcons got the scoring going early by tying the game 1:45 into the third quarter. However, Micah Finotti put the visitors back in the lead shortly after a Michael Fox faceoff win. After 10 minutes of no goals, Cameron Herd quickly fired in two less than a minute apart to give the Panthers their largest lead of the game, 6-3. Pfeiffer replied 19 seconds later, but Raymond Fracchia scored at the conclusion of the third period to put the Panthers back up three.

With the three-goal lead, BSC set up extremely well defensively in the fourth. They kept the Falcons out of their net through the first 11 minutes of the final quarter, but eventually, Pfeiffer trimmed the deficit to two. The Falcons hoped to start their comeback bid, but Patton Hunter and Josh Tamarkin all but clinched the road win with a goal each to go up 9-5. The Falcons would score late, but the Panthers went on to get their second straight win to start the season, 9-6.
