BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team defeated Hendrix on Senior Night to further push for the #2 seed in the SAA tournament.
The Panthers started cold with the Warriors jumping out to an 11-2 lead after a little over three minutes of play. BSC then still found themselves down nine at the first media timeout. The home team then swung momentum their way with a 13-0 run out of the timeout to take a 17-13 lead with 9:51 left in the first half.
Martise Jackson came off the bench and made an immediate impact with four points with a steal and assist in the run. The Panthers continued to slowly build on their lead and grabbed their largest lead of the night, 32-21 with 3:41 left in the opening half after a
Brandan Garrido three. The lead continued to grow and a
Brody Davis and-one put the exclamation point on the first half as BSC went into the break up 37-24.
'Southern continued to stretch their lead and with 15:32 remaining,
Brody Davis posterized his defender and drew the foul to bring the fans and Bill Battle to their feet. The big man then drained the free throw to increase the lead to 19. The second half saw back-and-forth scoring, but the Panthers played excellent team basketball to keep their double-digit lead. The Warriors got the deficit down to 14 with 6:46 left in the game, but back-to-back
Brandan Garrido buckets followed by a
Brandan Copeland dagger three-pointer put the game out of reach at 70-49 with 5:32 to go. The Panthers would hold onto their 21-point lead and collected the win over Hendrix, 79-58.
