BSC BESTED BY #25 DENISON BUT DEFEATS USF TO END ORLANDO TRIP

ORLANDO, Fla. - After being defeated by #25 Denison on Sunday, the Birmingham-Southern women's tennis team got back to winning ways with a 6-1 win over St. Francis (Ind.)

BSC vs. #25 Denison

Denison got off to a quick start in doubles with a sweep to earn all three points. Heading into the singles matches down 3-0, the Panthers had a small margin for error to turn things around.

The singles matches also went Denison's way as they saw victory in all six matches. Despite the loss, No. 1 Phoebe Shapard and No. 5 Anna Beth Giles forced tiebreaker sets against very strong opponents. Shapard played her tiebreaker in set one while Giles played hers in set two hoping to force a third set.

BSC vs. St. Francis (Ind.)

BSC bounced back in a huge way on Monday. To start the day, the Panthers won all three doubles matches by a score of 6-2. No. 1 Phoebe Shapard/Blakely Valdez, No. 2 Anna Marie Bentley/Anna Cate Weeks, and No. 3 Meg Griffin/Anna Beth Giles combined to complete the sweep and earn the doubles point, heading into singles matches.

No. 1 Blakely Valdez and No. 4 Anna Marie Bentley had dominant displays in their respective matches. Both Panthers did not give up a single game to their opponents with 6-0, 6-0 victories. No. 5 Anna Beth Giles also played excellent tennis by winning her match 6-1, 6-1. In the No. 3 position, Anna Cate Weeks completed a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 win while No. 6 Ricki Stockl gained the sixth and final point for the Panthers with a win in the tiebreaker set 10-4.
