Birmingham-Southern hosted Washington University a midweek double header, the first matchup between the teams since 2014.
Game #1: Washington struck first in the top of the second from 2 singles, a SAC bunt, and Panther error.
BSC quickly responded in the bottom of the second with a lead-off hit by pitch for Jaley Davis and an RBI single smoked down the third base line by Leah Wood. Maile White followed with an infield single and stolen base to put two runners in scoring position for Mollie Furr. Furr reached on a fielder's choice to load up the bases but the Panthers were not able to capitalize and left the second inning tied 1-1. The Bears found more momentum in the top of the fourth, putting two runners on base both from singles. Their third single of the inning resulted in an RBI and a 2-1 advantage.
Washington led off the fifth with back-to-back singles, putting two Bears on base. A pinch hit single up the middle scored their third run of the match-up. A ground ball to third base resulted in a run-down where the Bears plated another run and a 3 run lead through five innings.
Bella Furgason got things started in the bottom of the sixth for BSC with a reach on error to open the door for Natalie Snow. Snow crushed a double to the left-center gap, scoring Furgason and cutting the deficit to two runs. BSC arm in the circle Natalie Snow kept the Bears at bay in the seventh, retiring three straight.
BSC loaded up the bases in the bottom of the seventh but were unfortunately unable to force a run, resulting in a loss and final score of 4-2.
Game #2: Katie Hart led off the Panther offense by reaching on an error and a stolen base, quickly putting BSC in the position to score first. A well executed bunt by Moe McGuire allowed Hart to score and gave BSC a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
The Bears responded in the second inning with a lead-off triple to right field and RBI ground ball to tie the game at 1-1.
BSC offense came alive in the second inning, all starting with a single through the left side by Leah Wood. Wood then advanced on a Maile White SAC bunt. Olivia Trout turned over the order with a single to right field and stole second to put both Panthers in scoring position. With two on, Katie Hart delivered a clutch RBI single to left field, scoring Wood. Emma Jolley kept the BSC offense rolling, smoking a ball through the right side scoring both Panthers on base. Moe McGuire had a four pitch walk to put two runners on for Jaley Davis. Emma Jolley advanced to third on a wild pitch and Moe McGuire got in a run down, giving Jolley the opportunity to score and McGuire advanced to second.
On the same pitch that Jaley Davis earned a walk, the Bears failed a pick off attempt, committing a throwing error to second base scoring McGuire. BSC led by a score of 6-1 going into the third inning.
BSC lefty arm in the circle Olivia Trout held the Bears through the next four innings, keeping the scoreboard quiet.
