ATLANTA, Ga. - The 18th ranked Birmingham-Southern baseball team fell in a non-conference contest to Emory on the road on Tuesday after going 2-2 in Pensacola at the weekend.
How it happened
The Eagles poured on the runs early with five in the bottom of the first inning with four of the runs being unearned. The Panthers then got on the board in the top of the second after
Shane Nelson brought
Charlie Banks across the plate. However, BSC still found themselves down four runs after two half innings at the plate.
In the bottom of the second, Emory took complete control on the afternoon with their second straight five-run explosion to start the game. Things were not going 'Southern's way as they trailed 10-1 after two innings.
Jackson Webster singled up the middle to score
Eli Steadman in the top of the third inning, but the Eagles answered with their own single up the middle to reclaim the nine-run lead. They then added on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth and one in the bottom of the fifth to take a double-digit lead at 14-2.
Despite the struggles for the Panthers,
Jackson Webster continued his excellent day at the plate with a solo home run to left field in the top of the eighth inning. The first baseman went three for four with two RBIs on the day.
Emory went on to close the game out in the top of the ninth inning to win the midweek matchup 14-3.
