BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team fell in their regular season finale against Rhodes on Friday in their quest to host an SAA Quarterfinal game.
How it happened
Rhodes got going from the jump with a 5-0 run inside of the first 7:23 of the opening quarter. BSC got on the board with 3:59 remaining in the first period, but the Lynx scored with 16 seconds remaining to regain their five-goal lead.
Josh Tamarkin scored the first goal of the second quarter, but Rhodes once again answered. Cameron Herd then got his first of the game for BSC to cut the deficit back to four, but once again, the Lynx scored in response to head into halftime 8-3.
BSC needed to get a run started soon in the second half, but Rhodes scored inside the opening minute of the third quarter. Once again, both teams traded goals which prevented the Panthers from cutting into the lead. With nine seconds remaining in the third, Rhodes took their largest lead of the game as BSC faced a 12-5 deficit with 15 minutes left to play.
Rhodes scored nine seconds into the fourth quarter, but three goals in less than three minutes brought the margin back to five with 10:19 remaining. The Panther offense brought the crowd back into the game, and momentum seemed to be on the side of the home team. However, the game went to a stalemate for the next seven minutes. With 2:33 remaining, Josh Tamarkin scored BSC's fourth unanswered goal, but the Panthers still trailed by four. Having to go for it, Rhodes scored with 57 seconds left to solidify the win on the afternoon, 14-9.
