DEMOREST, Ga. - After a series win over the weekend, the Birmingham-Southern baseball team routed Piedmont for their fourth shutout of 2024.
For the fourth straight game, the Panthers scored in the top of the first inning.
Ian Hancock picked up where he left off with a two-run shot over the outfield wall to extend his homerun streak to three games. With a 2-0 lead,
Carter Tyus was excellent in his start with no runs on only two hits allowed in three innings.
Neither team added a run through the next three innings. In the top of the fifth,
Jackson Webster hit his conference-leading ninth homer of the year to double the BSC lead, 4-0.
Ian Hancock was then hit by a pitch and sent to third on a
Forrest Lietz double following the two-run homer. Hancock later scored on a wild pitch to stretch the lead to five. With two outs in the fifth,
Parker Ladd went yard for the fifth time this season to give the Panthers a huge 7-0 lead.
Tams Mullins and
Trip Barron were flawless in relief by preserving the shutout through six innings. In the top of the seventh,
Ty Truett scored on a wild pitch before
Andrew Dutton's great form at the plate continued with an RBI single for his third hit of the game. The Panthers led 9-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Ricky Harrison and
Jacob Fields kept the shutout going by allowing only one baserunner between them. With one inning to go,
Eli Steadman added the 10th run for BSC on an RBI double that brought
Mitch Austin all the way from first.
Charlie Yaeger came in to finish the game out in the bottom of the ninth and struck out the side to solidify BSC's 10-0 win in Demorest.
