BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern women's tennis team defeated Oglethorpe 7-1 on Friday but fell to Berry on Saturday to wrap up the 2024 SAA regular season.

April 19 vs. Oglethorpe

The Panthers were dominant to begin the day in doubles. No. 1 duo Blakely Valdez/Phoebe Shapard and No. 2 duo Anna Beth Giles/Meg Griffin cruised to 8-1 wins to give BSC a quick 2-0 lead. No. 3 duo Anna Cate Weeks/Anna Marie Bentley also played excellent tennis and finished their match with an 8-3 win to complete the doubles sweep.

In singles, No. 5 Anna Cate Weeks and No. 6 Anna Marie Bentley were flawless with 6-0, 6-0 wins to clinch the team's second SAA win. No. 4 Anna Beth Giles then won her match 6-2, 6-0 in a shutout second set to give the Panthers their sixth point on the afternoon. No. 2 Phoebe Shapard the capped off the day for BSC with a 6-2, 6-4 win to give the Panthers an impressive seven points on the cloudy day.

April 20 vs. Berry

Berry got off to a great start on the day with a sweep on doubles. No. 1 duo Phoebe Shapard and Blakely Valdez had the closest match but ultimately fell eight points to five in an attempt to prevent the sweep.

The Panthers were defeated in four out of six singles matches with No. 6 Anna Beth Giles and No. 1 Blakely Valdez getting the two wins for BSC. Giles won the tiebreaker in set one 7-5 before dominating in set two 6-1. Valdez played in the most exciting match of the day with two clutch tiebreaker wins. She won set one 7-5 before falling in set two 6-1 to set up a third set. She then battled and defeated her opponent 10-7 to grab BSC's second point.
